Abstract The formula of the relation between gravity anomaly system error and geoid was inferred based on the Stokes formula. To verify the reliability of this relation, the authors designed the simulation experiment based on the EGM2008 gravity model and calculated the propagation of gravity anomaly system error. Using error formula to estimate the accuracy of Stokes geoid will be influenced by the error edge effect. The relation between integral radius and estimated accuracy of the formula is given on the basis of the simulation experiment.
