Abstract There were few drill wells in Qiongdongnan basin, which affected the accuracy of reservoir prediction. In order to solve this problem, the authors applied virtual-well technique to reservoir prediction of drilled A-1 gas bearing structure in the southern part of Lingshui sag in the deep-water area of Qiongdongnan basin, which verified that the virtual-well technique is reasonable. The authors also summarized experience values of wave impedance of the reservoir in A study area. The experience values were used to predict the reservoir of A-2 structure to be drilled. The prediction of A-2 structure coincides with the drilling result, which confirmed that the virtual-well technique is of high feasibility in predicting the exploration targets in the deep-water area of Qiongdongnan basin.
