Abstract:
This study aims to achieve timely and accurate monitoring and analysis of mining-destroyed land and mine reclamation in Jiangsu Province. To this end, this study examined 2021—2022 remote sensing data with a spatial resolution better than 2 m that cover the whole Jiangsu Province, along with administrative information on mining and exploration rights. Using a technical workflow consisting of the indoor extraction of remote sensing information, field verification, and data correlation analysis in sequence, this study systematically investigated the newly added mining-destroyed land and mine reclamation in the province in 2022. The results indicate that in 2022, mining-destroyed land in Jiangsu Province expanded by 199.99 hm
2. Meanwhile, the reclaimed mine land increased by 1 643.85 hm
2 in area, including 1 618.85 hm
2 of engineering-based reclaimed land (98.48%), suggesting prominent standardized management. Further quantitative analysis was conducted using a spatial concentration model (Gini coefficient: 1.037), mineral contribution analysis, and Shannon diversity index (standardized score: 58.8). The analysis results reveal that mine reclamation, correlated with land occupied by mine development, in Jiangsu Province exhibited dual-core agglomeration in Xuzhou and Zhenjiang, with the reclaimed land in the two cities collectively accounting for 50% of the total in the province. The reclaimed land distribution differed greatly across varying regions, with 47.8% distributed in southern Jiangsu, 38.2% in northern Jiangsu, and 14.0% in central Jiangsu. Additionally, the mineral species in the province were dominated by non-metallic minerals for building materials (proportion: 95.48%), while metallic minerals accounted for less than 2%, suggesting a moderate-to-low diversity. The reclamation efforts achieved prominent outcomes in 2022. However, some problems remained, such as excessively high spatial concentration and low mineral diversity. Overall, this study elucidates the core characteristics of mine development and management in Jiangsu Province in 2022. Notably, through the reverse correlation between reclamation data and land occupation characteristics, this study offers a feasible method for dynamic mine monitoring under conditions of a small sample size and cross-sectional data. This study can provide basic information and a scientific basis for the supervision of orderly mine development, the protection and restoration of mine ecological environments, and the sustainable management of resources in Jiangsu Province.
