An application system is proposed for the Earth Resourue Satellite(ERS) project. The system under consideration consists of five subsystems, as follows: .the data receiving and recording subsystem; . the data preprocessing and production subsystem; .the applied analysis Modeling and expert subsystem (AAS) ; .the data simulation and evaluation subsystem; .the data distribution and user's service subsystem. Except the tradionally satellite receiving and preprocessing subsystem, the. important subsysten of AASwill be discussed further in detail. It is basically a geographic information system (GIS) but incorporating with human intelligence of interpretation of remote sensing imagery. Such a subsystem takes the products (image data) of preprocessing. subsystem as input and produces different thematic map in vector format by using the human brain knowledges assisted by computer.Obviously, the advantages of AASare not only the higher accuracy of classification than the common image analysis system or GISbut the capability of human intelligence in the process of image interpretation. The whole application system is an unseparable important part of Earth Resource Satellite programme requirements. It will provide the real time and effective dynamic data information to various users for different economic constructions, and will be able to supply the global static information and thematic map of a certain part of the country or even the whole country also. These results are very useful for national planning and macroscope decision making. The application system will undertake the task to check the final effectiveness of the Earth Resource Satellite project.
