Abstract In order to trace whether the Huishan-Liyuan metallogenic, belt of north Korea into Changbai mountains region of China covered with basalt or not,the airborne colored infrared image and process TMdata were used in interpreting the structure, distribution and alteration of rocks in Huishan-Changbai county region. The result permits us to find that the structure and stratigraphy controlling the Huishan-Liyuan metallogenic belt extends beneath the basalts in Changbai county. The compote images of TM5/TM7, TM4/TM3 and TM3/TM4 ratios are used in suppressing the disturbance of vegetation and protruding the altered rocks information containing clay minerals. In connection with gravity and aeromagnetic data, we infered the existence of hidden porphyre in Yanjiangcun-Wanbaogang zone and in zone north of Malugou, and determined these two zone to be the target areas for prospecting ore deposits. The field examination, geophysical and geochemical surveys in the Yanjiancun zone provides a good ore finding result. It permits us to find diabase-porpyrite, low temperature hydrothermal alteration rocks and Cu geochemical anomaly, and limn a gold anomaly area about 3km2 in north of Malugou.
