Abstract  

Based on the data of wave spectrum of coal fire area, this article discussed the following items about application of TM images to detecting coal fires. 1). The best choice of temporal and the best compose of band of TM images in studying coal fires. 2).Interpretation marks and image characteristics of coal fire on the TM images. 3). Using different temporal TM images to forecast and detect coal fire dynamicly in Baishan Qitai, Xinjiang.The result of studying provided reliable basis for extinquishing coal fire and engineering management.
