Abstract Zhaoyuan City, located in the northwest of Jiaodong peninsula, is one of the economically developed areas in Shandong Province, with gold production making up the most important industry. The exploitation of gold, however, has severely affected the environment, and this problem should be tackled in a comprehensive way. This study is based on RSand field investigation data of the area. The new technology of Remote Sensing (RS) and Geography Information System (GIS) are applied to Geometric Correction of the Image, Image Interpreter of environment information and the construction of the database. This research can provide accurate and detailed data for restoring the natural environment of this area.
