THE APPLICATION OF BOX-PLOT METHOD TO DETERMINING GEOCHEMICAL ANOMALY THRESHOLDS BASED ON VBA PROCEDURE IN EXCEL |

Abstract Although there are many methods to determine thresholds of geochemical anomaly, they all to some extent have such problems as complex calculation process, narrow application scope, and low popularity degree of professional software. Aimed at solving these problems, the authors put forward a method formed by the combination of EDA technique and classical statistical probability method. And a VBA program for this method is developed by using the Application Development Tools in Excel to realize the quick calculation of geochemical anomaly thresholds. This method and VBA program are characterized by simple and convenient calculation, robust anomaly thresholds and wide application range. Nevertheless, according to the principle of this method, it can only be applied to the data from a single parent body which can be recognized by fractal pictures.
