THE EXTRACTION OF RESIDENTIAL AREA ON LANDSAT TM IMAGERY FROM RED EARTH REGION IN CENTRAL JIANGXI

Abstract  Rapid and accurate collection of the information of residential area is very important in evaluating the damage caused to building and property. The difference between residential area and other areas in Fuzhou region is analyzed by the remote sensing image of landsant TM1, TM2, TM3, TM4, TM5, TM6 and TM7.As the bare lands appear everywhere and are very extensive, the differentiation of the bare lands from the residential area should naturally be emphasized. The residential area can be extracted with a model of the spectral characteristic curves on the basis of knowledge acquired, with the positioning accuracy and the area accuracy as high as 81% and 75% respectively. In a word, the residential area can be extracted from Landsat TM with a simple model.
