Abstract The characteristics of remote sensing image, geochemistry and radioactive spectrum of coal-bearing series and coal rocks in Jixi Cooperative District have been proposed on the base of its hydrocarbon-forming and gas gathering process. As a result, the comprehensive geological characteristics of coal bed gas in this area has been proposed, and the ability of hydrocarbon-forming and gas gathering surrounding this area has been studied in detail.
