Abstract Luzong basin is a basin covered with intermediate-acidic volcanic rocks of Mesozoic age located in the conjunction of Qinling latitudinal structural system with the second upwarping zone of Neocathaysian structural system. The authors focused on the methodology of mineral resources research in volcanic area by applying remote sensing technique and analyzed the relationship between mineralizing conditions and their remote sensing images based on the comprehensive geological interpretation of multifarious and multistage remote sensing images and field examination. It is proven that the remote sensing images have advantages to the interpretation of geological structure and volcanic mechanism. The marks of mineral resources (i.e. gold and copper) prognosis in remote sensing images in this area have been distinguished and the possible mineralizing ranges have been determined.
